There's no high pressure surface movement with that cap design if you use the Knob (adjust it) in the centre as it's meant to work. It's the thing that applies the pressure. Nev

Managed to get hold of some rubberised cork gasket material, works very well and does not shrink on drying out. I also used to stop my monobloc carby bowl leaking. Attached is a PDF of typical sizes and properties of this material.

I use thin (about .045") leather salvaged from the back of a scrapped armchair. It was still on my '56 FH when I sold it after years of service.
