Greetings knowledgeable ones; can anyone tell me what balance factor was originally used by Ariel on the 500cc Red Hunter crankshaft?
Alternatively, any thoughts re what balance factor would be best for this engine to be used for sprinting?

The balance factor varies depending on whether you are using a rigid/plunger frame or a swinging arm frame. But sprinting doesn't take very long so I would have thought there is little chance of vibration from the engine shaking the fillings out of your teeth!

A Forum search will find quite a few refs to VH balance factors.
65% gets a lot of mentions (seems to be what the factory used).
David Anderson (who has done a lot of work on Ariel singles) prefer to use 66.66%.

Many thanks for that info, 65-66% would at least seem to be a good starting point on the understanding that lots of other factors come into play.
