Something is not lining up! W/NG primary chain case cover
I have removed the aluminium chain case cover and am currently offering up the replacement (and period correct) tin version, but although it very nearly fits , it would only do so if I enlarge the hole where the footrest bar comes through; which I don't want to do. As you can see from the pictures, the lower edge of the hole is in contact with the footrest bar which is stopping the cover rotating 1/4" further anti-clockwise (allowing all the mounting holes to line up properly). I can just about force the screw into the crankcase in, but then it sits completely out of centre on the gearbox drive shaft.
I just can't see where it is going wrong. There is nothing else that can be adjusted.
Anyone got any ideas?
Thanks
Steve W

Some of the engine plates of that period have a second set of footrest bar holes, slightly higher up, for the tin chaincase. Have a look at your engine plates.

There are half a dozen mods required when converting to steel chaincase as explained on works drawing GA83

That would have been so easy, but sadly not. I guess I either have to try and find some correct engine plates, and/or attempt the mods in GA83. That document is invaluable, thank you Roger.

It's only the positioning of the long stud that locates the footpegs. People often leave out the centre spacer allowing the plate to be warped when it's tightened. Check for flatness before assembly. Nev

Thank you Nev and Vincent. I have someone looking to see if they have some originals, otherwise, its out with the drill!
Vincent, your pictures suggest the stud that the footrest support (5375-29) uses is also moved. But the document that Roger sent only shows the hole being moved, with a split bush being fitted over the exiting stud; I assume the bush is meant to shift the centre. Is yours an original, or modified as per document GA83?

Ah yes it' s and exiting stud in this topic!
The existing stud fitted with that split bush was a remedy (bodge?) to get the stud nearer to the footrest holder ?
My guess is that to simplify the plot they just moved the stud ?
Roger, is there a drawing showing all the differences in the WNG frame compared to the standard frame ?
