1930 LF

Just acquired a 1930 Ariel model LF, Not a machine I have had any experience with.

Mostly all there, doesn't have a speedo (there is a hole in the tank for it complete with a chrome blanking plate) or the drive for it which I believe comes off of the gearbox.

Also missing is the HT pick-up from the magneto, it's a Lucas type but not sure which model as it is not possible to see the markings while it is clamped into position.
Any information would be useful.
The machine was previously in the John Hobbs collection which was sold at Bonham's auction this last weekend. John it seems was a large collector of such machines there being a number of other LF's plus a big selection of frames, forks, tanks engines e.c.t in the same sale.

Hi Bertie, my rear sprocket is just about worn out, did you get any of those with your hubs? Not really that hard to make another but just easier if someone has got one.

Hi Bob, sadly yes it does mean the tiger cub wheel and spindle are being replaced, fingers crossed I won't need a new spindle as the rear hubs are complete with spindles.

John Lay - there are two rear sprockets in the box of bits i bought, so potentially a spare, i've not had a good look at them to see how good either are.

Will Curry, I might have a spare timing cover, if i do its buried in my garage somewhere, sprockets for the magneto drive sadly not.

This was owned by John Hobbs from at least 1977 and possibly 1969. It is first recorded with engine L 1180, a 1929 LB in 1969, from 1977 it has engine M 1433 that matches the frame in model and year but is not the original. It is an odd looking mag and I think it may be a Miller. The 3 pip Lucas pick up may fit, Draganfly list them under number 451321 but find out which mag you have first!
