I fitted 2.75/300 x 19 as that was already fitted. An Avon "speed-master" front (which I had to hand) and a traditional block tread on the rear.
Note: The LF is fitted with WM1 rims for which a 300 size tyre is about the largest you should fit.

Talking of which I took the machine to a local Boxing-day meet and found that the rear tyre had gone "flat". Pumped it back up and it's still up now. Not quite sure what the problem is, but will need to keep an eye on it. Ordered a new inner tube to be on the safe side

Thanks John, is the block style tread rear of the same size?

Yes it is. Good luck with the prospective purchase, what year is it?

Thanks John, appreciate the info.

It’s a 1930, and apparently the tyres are a bit old so I’d want to put new on before using it really. It’ll be my first foray into classic motorcycle ownership, given that all the bikes I currently own are 00’s onwards! So some new stuff to learn.

As acquired the bike was fitted with Lucas bulb horn that I did not much care for (thought it was rather oversize) more to the point it didn't work very well anyway. Ordered a 6v electric horn and push button before Christmas, the horn turned up quite quickly was fitted and wired up, but the push button somewhat later. In fact today (6 Jan) fitted the button straight-a-way before it got lost. Toot - Toot.

The Ariel had been unused for some years and as a result the fuel in the taps had turned into something akin to varnish. The taps themselves had to be drilled out but the gauze filters on the top of the taps remain completely impervious to petrol. Scrubbing with a stiff brush with fresh petrol hasn't improved things. Anyone any bright ideas how to get them clean?
