Re: 1930 LF
The V5 lists the engine as M262 but it is engine number M1433 which is fitted. Given the number of LF's in the sale (12, some complete others rather les so) plus 20 or more lots of Ariel parts, frame, forks, tanks, engine and gearbox etc it's perhaps not surprising things might have got mixed up.
Definitely a Lucas magneto, see photo

Re: 1930 LF
Got one! HT pick-up for my magneto that is. I asked around at my local VMCC meeting and someone said they had some.
In this case "some" was just as well, as it turned out, because it seems they come in different sizes. The first one to try was too short, leaving a gap between its top and the clip that should hold it in place. Happily one the right height was found in the collection. I now need to find the carbon brush and spring, as these are quite common items they should not be too difficult to find.

Re: 1930 LF
It seems that celebrations on finding a pick-up might have been a bit premature. On inspection it was found that the remains of an old HT cable was stuck inside the body and the pointed grub that screws up inside the brush holder was impossible to get out. Someone had already tried in the past and the slot in the end of the grub screw was somewhat "chewed-up", probably why the odd piece of cable was left in the pick-up in there first place. So what to do about it?
Had to resort to drilling the old grub out screw out followed by tapping out (1BA) and making a new grub screw. On reflection I think that grub-screw is a bit on the short side, not very difficult to make another.

Re: 1930 LF
The magneto should be a Lucas MC1, and it looks like you have the right one. The strap around it makes it look odd, but this is correct for 30. in 29 it just bolted from below. Great to have your company at the auction BurtieB , as you know, I too will now have some tigercub hubs spare! I have cams to spare, some are new old stock....Also RPD gearbox internal spares to share, again some new old stock. I would like to swop for engine cases 29 or 30, or gearbox empty cases. I also have some rear frame sections to swop. Did anyone else in the club buy LF,LB,MF parts at the auction? Or was it all dealers??? I would recomend Dave Barkshires book for any new owners.

Re: 1930 LF
Answered my own question, yes the rear sprocket is a separate item so making another just got a whole lot simpler.
The original sprocket just about completely worn out

Re: 1930 LF
Will Curry, did you get mag sprocket? Is it the mag sprocket or the cam sprocket you need? They are both piculiar to the 250 29/30, they changed again for the sloper 250/350. I have a few spare

Re: 1930 LF
Amongst the missing or worn out items is the battery, not a shape I'm familiar with. Looking a the carrier it seams to be rectangular, quite wide but not very deep.
Which one do I need or is there a dummy box available anywhere?
Having taken the rear wheel out I note the rear tyre is well past it's best so along with a "plate-wheel" sprocket I have ordered a replacement, might as well get both jobs done together, save taking the wheel out again later.

Re: 1930 LF
New "plate wheel" sprocket arrived all tooled up to make a replacement for the original worn out one
Here it is set up on the lathe's face plate ready for machining, setting out and holes drilled etc done beforehand
The finished sprocket all bar a little bit fettling ready to fit. compare with the photo of the original.
An old MOT "Advisory Notice" that came with the various paperwork issued in 2011 noted "Rear drive sprocket worn" Been that way for quite a while it would seem
