torque setting for flywheel

Post by charvey »

Hi All,
Will soon be rebuilding a 600 flywheels what is the torque setting for the big end flywheel nuts I don't want to over tighten them and crack the flywheel which happened to my friends Royal Enfield with tapered fit. Thanks Clive.

There isn't any listed setting, apart for FT, which means very tight. I would suggest a minimum of 60ft/lbs, I have never heard of any Ariel flywheels breaking under those circumstances. In deepest rural France whilst cruising at 60 mph on a nice sunny morning, yes but not while building the crank.
