BSA Hard chrome fork stanchions

Post by JoshJ »

Lad's,

Im about to order all the components to rebuild my forks. I have read about people using the hard chromed stanchions that are available for the BSA Goldstar/A10's and just wanted to hear from people that have used them and how they went.

These are the stanchions I'm considering: https://www.classicbikeshop.co.uk/bsa-g ... -5027.html

thanks

I've got a set of those for the FH.

I haven't built the forks up yet but I can tell you that they are well packed, nicely finished and fit perfectly in the yokes.

Ask me after the weekend and I might have the sliders on!
cheers

The standard stanchions will last well enough for most users. Hard chrome ones will last a lot longer but only worth while for high mileage or if you are going to expose your forks! They are supplied with bushes because the manufacturer hard chromes standard stanchions, rather than grinding them undersize to allow for the plating, so they are slightly over size. Good price though

They look like a bargain to me - if they fit the yokes ok they can't be far out. Pity they don't make 'em for Panthers!

All seems OK to me. Still got to fit that pesky circlip, and my FH will have brand new forks.

By the way, I'm using Drags bushes.

Good to hear Simon, ive ordered a set.. :)

Any reason you went with the Drag's bushes, did your stanchions not come with them?

I'd already bought the bushes - experience with the SQ4 suggested I'd need them. I decided later that since the stanchions are pretty cheap and the ones in the FH were quite pitted, I'd treat it to a new set.

You could always do away with those pesky clips and do what BSA and Triumph did which was replace them with the crushable spacer BSA 68-5134 or Triumph 97-2643. It was introduced to do away with the shimming often needed under the circlip to stop the upper bush clacking up and down when on the road and is a lot easier to fit. I have used these in my A10 SF.
