Vb600 gearbox 1954

Post by dez.butterworth »

Hi.
Got my steering damper sorted out now thanks to forum help, now the gearbox.
Reasonably good gear changes up and down except that she occasionally jumps out of first gear. All other gears good. To avoid sudden power loss (and inevitable wobble), I tend to keep pressure on the gear lever in first and not allow it to return until ready to change to second gear!!!
Could it be something simple before I tear into the gearbox?

Many thanks in advance. Dez 1954 vb600

Whatever the problem is at least the end cover is going to have to come off.

I've seen the dowel pins which follow the grooves in the selector drum worn
enough to cause problems.

A word of caution about the kickstart ratchet nut on the end of the mainshaft:
Don't over-tighten it as there isn't much thread on the mainshaft and repairing
a ruined thread is not an easy task.
