VH 500 Gasket thickness cylinder base, gear cover to crank case

Post by ralfpenkert »

Hello everybody,
recently i got a VH 500, 1956 gasket set.
It looks like it contains some wrong gaskets.
My VH 500 has an aloy head.
Want to ask for the cylinder base gasket thickness
and gear cover to crank case gasket thickness.
Know that there is a small paper washer 0.003 thick too.
Many thanks in advance - Ralf

Ps the rebuild due to the damaged conrod bearing is in progress - but this is another thread. Will let you know soon.

There is no set thickness for those gaskets and they are not critical. The originals would have been thin paper and you would have used shellac made from snails with them. Today we can afford thicker and better gaskets, yes you may need a few extra shims on the cam.

Thanks Roger,
but the thin 0,1mm paper gasket for a cylinder base should be a bit more.
will cut a 0,4mm.
