VB600 damper rod.

Post by dez.butterworth »

Hi all. This is my first post on the forum and hope someone can tell me how to remove the steering damper rod. I have the Waller manual but cannot see the locating peg which will, after removal, allow the rod to drop down and be removed.
Thank you on advance. Dez

Its in the lower fork yoke, often obscured by muck and paint. Tap it out and the damper rod will come out.

Welcome aboard Dez.

If this is a swinging arm frame, the pin is behind the steering lock. The lock needs to come out.

If it is a girder fork model the rod is retained by the fork spindle, which will have to be removed. Three methods over the years, don't forget to include the year of bike in your question!

Thank you all for the replies. Will have another look at it. Maybe I should have said it is a 1954 swing arm model.

Quick update. Eureka!! I could see the retaining peg at the rear of the boss but it looked like a blind hole with no exit. The reason being that a previous owner had mounted the horn bracket on the boss thus obscuring the through hole with his bracket.
Problem solved. I can now remove it if I have to when my parts come from Dragonfly, in the meantime thanks to such a friendly knowledgeable bunch😄
Cheers. Dez

Hi

If you have a steering lock fitted the arrow in this photo indicates where the securing grub screw is located. The large hole visible is the access to drive out the damper rod securing pin, (after removing the lock).
