Folks,

Any opinions on how glossy a gloss black frame should be in the late 50's? I'm about to start painting the FH.

On a scale of 1-10 I would say about 8. I have a NOS FERC section that has been kept wrapped from new and it is pretty shiny

Not recently as I have been using brushing enamel but it's very satisfying but too time consuming. If I was doing a restoration I would look for an enamellers rather than powder coater to achieve a more authentic and thinner finish, a lot of time is consumed filing the the powder coating off places it isn't wanted.

Avoid soft undercoats too. It makes the finish chip too easily. Some good operators are using two Pack on the correct undercoat with good results. Use just enough to get finish and colour coverage. Have the frame and other parts able to be rotated as you paint to avoid missed patches and reduce runs. Avoid overspray onto finished parts/ areas and use a mask and ventilation.
