Lucas MCR2 clip sought
Hello, I am finishing the wiring on my 1950 NH project and the old Lucas MCR2 regulator will not work again as it’s really badly rusted inside. I have removed the parts and fitted an electronic replacement as these have worked well for me on other bikes. Problem is that I do not have the U shape spring clip to keep the brass cover in place. It’s part number 391453 and I searched the internet and eBay and could not find anything. Is there a source for this parts or are you making something to replace it? Thanks in advance.

Re: Lucas MCR2 clip sought
I'd make one out of piano wire. They are maybe 1.5mm diameter.
cheers

I had the same problem on the KHA but eventually found a clip. One alternative I considered was to drill out the holes in the regulator base which take the clip so that you could get a thin cable tie through. Joined underneath, it would not be noticed by the casual eye.

Thanks gents, seems that the clip is not commercially available so I will try to make one as Simon suggested but if not successful I will use a cable tie or two and hope a clip appears at some point.

Fair point Nev, I have the same unit on my Triumph so measured it at just over 1.6mm, similar to Simon’s information, not sure what that would be in SWG but piano wire in this size is easily obtainable and as I have one, I know the shape and dimensions. The long curve on the top will be interesting to make but I will have a go. I just hoped that replica parts for this item were being made somewhere as they just rust away.

Paul,
If you don't succeed in making one of those clips, I could mail the spare I have to you but I don't know if it is a 391453 or a 390381. Also I don't know the difference between those two numbers.
Regards, Chris

Re: Lucas MCR2 clip sought
Thanks for the offer Chris, the height dimension should be 2 1/2” inside the hooks to inside the curved part that clips on the cover. The width should be 3” from centre to centre on the sides. I think your spare may be too tall? I’m going to try to make something but not looking forward to bending piano wire accurately, it will be interesting to try. If I fail spectacularly and yours does have the correct dimensions I might be thankful for your offer.

Paul,
I'm not sure but it looks like your measurements correspond to the clip I have if one spreads the two "legs" apart! Anyway, send me a PM with your address if you want me to mail the clip over the pond.
