Would anyone know if any mods are required, or problems arising from, using a pair of 1949 VB crancases to build up a VH engine?
Cheers

Re: VB crankcases for OHV build
Having used a set of '54 VB cases for a 350, I'd say completely interchangeable except for having to block off the VB oil hole tat will otherwise be between the push rods.

Re: VB crankcases for OHV build
There's a hole between the two pushrod holes on a VB that allows oil mist to the valve springs. Other than that I am pretty sure VH and VB cases are identical. To use the VB cases on an OHV the easiest fix is to tap a thread in the VB breather hole (it's about 3/16" I think) and put a small screw in it.

I don’t think you need to actually block off the hole in the top of the timing side crank case as the base barrel gasket for the OHV barrel will seal it off.
Put some Hylomar blue on the gasket to make sure.
And of course there is no corresponding hole in the OHV barrel base.
