Ohh dear, it's been one of those days.
Looking for an excuse to try out my new 220 main jet one came along when our David Sage said his Leader seat was ready for recovering.. I'll be straight round I said and had an uneventful trip to Fareham around 20 miles away from home. After the necessary tea and chat I followed his directions back to the motorway and got lost!!! This turned out a good thing as I came to a sputtering halt before reaching the Smart! Motorway.
A stupid flat battery.and did I have my rescue battery pack with me? NO.

I managed to push the bike back the wrong way on the slip road to a turning, ringing Dave up he kindly came out to me with a spare 12volt battery. This got me home.
It didnt look pretty but it worked

There is a lot to be said for a magneto.......

Life is never dull with Joe Lucas's electrics but your lights might be. As my dear Mum would say "These things are sent to TRY us" . SHE HATED Motorbikes. The THING about a magneto is you don't NEED a battery , which needs a generator, which is probably less reliable than a magneto AND then there's the life of the battery in a very vibrating environment. Indeed, perhaps though I can't blame Joe this time, I think Steve has a much bigger part to play :D .
My electronic ignition has always worked flawlessly, it's just the bit between the battery and the unit that has been dodgy. :) I put my volt meter on the battery once I'd got it going again and it was all over the place, I've fitted a spare rectifier hopefully that will sort it. I'll go for a ride this afternoon and see how it goes, with a spare battery

Steven, how did the 220 main jet work out, looks as if you are running with a concentric. I also have a concentric on my 54 VH, but get a lot of "surging" type misfire on very small throttle openings just off the idle stop. Regards, Ian

Dent can be a touch cold so I need a little weather protection so on with the overcoat.

I am running a 180 main jet in a 928 concentric with a fixed idle jet bush, needle clip in the middle position and number 3 cutaway slide. I think the cutaway may be too little giving a rich mixture at small throttle openings, tomorrow I will check my plug colour. Is yours a 28mm concentric?
