Field stand fouling pannier bracket

Afternoon

You can see from the picture that my field stand fouls the edge of the pannier bracket, forcing the field stand out of the retaining springs. Other than sawing the edge off the pannier bracket, I can't see how I can improve this - any ideas?

Also, I bought some rear mudguard stays to frame studs from Acmestainless, Acme part number (5604-39), in the hope they would be suitable replacement for 5654-41, but having tried them, I don't think they are quite long enough to do the job. Other than Drags who can't supply, any ideas where I might pick some up?

Thank you

Steve

If you have a look at my blog post on pannier fitting, there's a shot from the Ariel workshop manual that suggest the repro pannier brackets aren't quite identical to what's pictured in the manual.

I used my linisher to increase that radius and while there is still a clash (my field stand clips are non-standard at the moment) I can at least clip it up. Here's a picture of the other side:

Where did you get that stand clip?

Hi Simes
Thanks for your reply. Where do I find your blog?

I think you are correct and from other photos I have seen, I would say the repro brackets are to tall.

Field Spring brackets from AOMCC Spares.

Hi Steve, you could get Will Horgan of Stainless Classics to make longer studs. He is happy to make things to order.

If you let me know what needs to be altered on the pannier brackets I will make sure that existing stock is altered and that the drawing is altered so that the next batch is correct.

Here you go Roger. I went to look at the W/NG at the North Walsham museum but unfortunately they've sold it; I've also looked at dozens of W/NG pictures online. This is the picture from the manual I was referring to:

It looks like two things are different - the radius I have marked in blue, which appears to be larger than the ones I got from Drags - which are very nicely made, by the way, and secondly the shape I have marked in red, which appears to be more curved. this is also suggested in the parts book pictures.

The only other thing is that the pictures in the parts book suggest the holes should be slotted.

Hi

Just a suggestion, (as I have no experience of the W/NG), in the OP's photo there appears to be a thin nut between the mudguard stay and the pannier bracket, would altering the assembly order or removing this nut create the clearance required for the field stand?

Regards Mick

Good point Mick. I believe the pannier bracket should be behind that hex, which is actually a special stud.
