CP Gearbox post 46 longer splines

Post by stevewhitt »

Morning
I need to identify whether my gearbox has the post 46 longer splines. Not sure if this can be ascertained from the serial number which is X1CPBL84696.
If this is not possible, I can slip the clutch off and measure the thickness of centre boss, but what are the thickness's for the are early/late versions?

I need to know this because my current clutch is 2 plate and should be 3, so looking to acquire the relevant parts to change it, including the centre boss.

Thank you

Steve

Your gearbox is from a WD machine and will have the shorter splines. The later clutch centres are easily modified by machining the central boss down. The post 1947 centres have a boss that is .550" long, the earlier are about .300", gearbox splines are about .05" shorter.

Surely your clutch should be a two plate?

Hi Tony
It is my understanding that the WN/G had a 3 plate clutch - maybe requested by the military?

Thanks
