Re: rear spindle - something might not be right
I have been through the box and found only one dust cover which is a whisker over 1 3/4" outer diameter. Free to good home if anyone knows what to fit it to!

Looking at the picture of your spindle assembly Adam, there is an obvious difference in that you have a sleeve which fits into the bearing, whereas I have a bearing which is a composite with the sleeve inside, as per pic.
I am wondering about the overall width being different, mine being wider which is why the abutment washers are removed.

Steve,
Your wheel bearing looks like mine which I am sure is original and
needs the abutment washers for the outer in order to line up with
the spindle I have.

Gents
I have measured the distance from the shoulder against which the abutment washer sits to the outside of the hub, on both drive and non drive sides.
Drive side 0.685"
Non drive side 0.814"
This is interesting as I would have thought the internal shoulders would be equally spaced within the hub, or maybe not?
If anyone has a hub stripped down, could they repeat the measurement please?
I am really trying to establish if my hub is from a wng, or something else...
Thanks
Steve

Steve,
All being well I'll be able to have a measure round of my spare
wheel tomorrow afternoon.

Re: rear spindle - something might not be right
I have gone through what we have in the way of works drawings and the best I can find is that your dimension of 0.685" on the drive side is correct but on the non drive side the distance is greater. The drawing which shows this is for the much later HT model which used a similar hub so the chances are high that your hub is indeed genuine Ariel, if unusual.

Re: rear spindle - something might not be right
That’s very interesting Paul, thanks for looking at the drawings.
My hub is also unusual in that there are weld marks on the rim where the outer spokes join. Is that an HT difference do you know?
I can make the hub I have work once I understand the differences. When you say on the non drive side the distance is greater, can you tell me what it should be for an ng hub?
Thanks
Steve

Re: rear spindle - something might not be right
Interestingly, some of the dimensions I found on my hub are significantly different
from the ones you quoted.
The hub - the part with the bearings in - is 6" wide. The abutment on the drum
side is approximately 0.93" in and that on the other side 0.98".
The spoke flange on the side away from the drum is 0.59" from the outer edge and the
outer edge on the drum side is approximately 0.33" inside the drum.
The outer of the taper roller bearing is marked 3K 1120N1 and is 0.56" wide.
The inner is marked 3K 1162X and is 0.89" wide.
I've sent you a PM.

Re: rear spindle - something might not be right
Thank you Will,
My PM service seems very klunky, messages I send spend there time in the outbox! Also, I have not received your message either.
I did look up one of your bearing references and I found it listed as a bearing for a Triumph 3HW I think.
Not sure what to conclude from that and your measurements being so different from mine and also one of the measurements taken from the works drawings.
Its all very confusing!
