Adam - as an aside, if that's your 'proper' brake in your pic it shouldn't be bent to go around the frame like that....

Simon, do you mean the brake rod or the steel stay? The rod is just one that came with the bike bits where as the stay came from drags. I have a brake arm coming this week so will be able to assemble the brake shoes etc in the hub. I did wonder if it was the correct rod as in the parts book it shows it being straight.

The rod! The brake rods are straight, with the proper brake arm you should be able to get it lined up correctly. ;)
