Hi
My fuel tank cap had a rubber gasket which has perished. Looking in the parts list it requires p/n 5025-29.
Is that just a cork ring?

Thanks

Steve

Hi Steve. Back in those days I'm not aware that rubber was ever used for petrol cap seals, I've had many bikes up from pre-war to the seventies and all had cork. Plus of course wartime shortages would've meant rubber was in short supply anyway.

The original seal was indeed a ring of cork. These always shrink and make for a good sized petrol leak. These days I simply cut the ring from a sheet of gasket material which I find will last for many years with minimal leakage ( but always a tiny bit when the tank is full.)
