New member intro

Post by stevewhitt »

Good evening all,
I am a new member here, live near Poole in Dorset. I have just acquired a 1944 W/NG, which is nearly ridable, but has some parts missing. From this time last year to March I did a nut an bolt restoration of a Royal Enfield WD/C and have been enjoying riding it with fellow military vehicle enthusiasts. As the winter months approach, I decided I needed another challenge and quite fancied a W/NG, so here we go....
The parts that I have identified as missing or incorrect thus far are:
Speedometer, brackets and cables
Pillion footrests
Field stand
Altette Horn, push button and horn bracket
Valve lifter lever
A small bracket which links the 2 toolboxes together
Rear number plate
Rear light
New pillion frame and seat
Panniers
Petrol tap
Throttle
Battery box

I have the speedo gearbox, a new lower front mudguard bracket and period DU42 headlight with correct glass, ammeter and switch.

I am receiving a parts book and workshop manual tomorrow, which will help allowing me to add some part numbers!

Having read through parts of the forum today, I can see there are many experts in the club and I look forward to interacting soon.

If anyone can spot any other parts that I will need or are fitted but not authentic, I would be grateful to know. I would also welcome any suggestions on where to find them.

Thanks in advance

Steve

There is no numberplate holder Just a special light. The Field stand is a mixed blessing so get the length right and the clips that hold it near the frame The front mudguard may be a bit close to the frame when the Horn gets mounted at the front of the engine. Make sure the horn bracket doesn't crack as they sometimes vibrate a lot with the engine running fast.. She's looking good but the rear carrier looks a bit lethal wi5thout the panniers. Nev

Welcome to the forum.

The frame is actually from a naval contract S6520 and the engine is not listed but probably supplied as a spare to the army, assuming it is still BH 30952, when last listed on the club's register.

Looking good but as you say a few points to attend to make it perfect.
Headlamp glass should be flat otherwise the blackout mask will not fit
Crankcase undershield is missing
Should have a kickstart spring clip 3308-41
Speedo should be the side mounted rather than central version.
This contract lists pillion footrests to go with the seat

Thank you Roger for the information. Yes, it still has engine number BH30952. I have a NOS DU42 headlamp to fit, with flat glass. The other parts I am already trying to find!
I may have sourced the correct horn, but in my Nov 1944 parts list, I can only find the 'catapult' shaped mounting bracket. I think there should be another bracket? Can't find either of these at the moment.

Can't seem to see 'crankcase undershield' either - do you have a part number please?

I have tried Draganfly and they have some of the brackets to make the panniers secure, but they do not have pillion footrests, kickstarter spring, nor speedo brackets - any suggestions welcome.

Thanks for the replies, it is encouraging to know I am not alone!

I realise the bike as standard does not carry a rear numberplate, but of course for legal reasons, I need to display one. Is there any preference regarding what to use and whether fitting a MT110 is a good idea (I think it is)?
