Leader Panniers

I am toying with the idea of using a set of these Leader panniers that I can purchase to replace my soft throw over saddlebags.
The twist is that I don't own a Leader, but a Square four and other assorted British bikes of the era.
Are these a reasonable capacity for throwing a sleeping bag and other weekend bits and pieces into for a weekend rally, and would they be suitable for attaching to homemade brackets?
