Hello, the seat of the exhaust valve has gone to pieces... do you have any opportunities for a cylinder head?

I dont have a head but I have had valve seats replaced in a pair of twin heads (not Ariel but aluminium 50s classic British heads) a few years ago by an engine builder specialist.

If heads are not available may be worth a try at a local shop?

My cylinder head went to a cylinder head rectifier for an estimate. Possibility to change the two seats for unleaded gasoline.
I'm looking at all the possibilities for the repair budget.......

hi you can get valve seats made to size i have got made for heads that the seats have fell out and the head need boring out to fit oversized seats

John Budgen used to be able to supply heads.

A good engineering shop that does work on engine parts will be able to replace the seats and should not cost a lot of money, if it does it is the wrong shop.

I wonder why the seat broke up like that.

I'd have a really good look to make sure the head hasn't cracked.
I have an earlier alloy head in which the exhaust valve seat came adrift
and that had cracked from valve guide to valve guide.

Unfortunately those alloy heads can give a lot of problems.Id suggest use freezing of the insert (Cryogenic) . This is the go for Porsche aircooled heads. Thick wall inserts have little "give" and are more troublesome. The insert probably fell out and then broke up. Keeping the guides tight is a problem also. the exhaust seat is more of a problem than the inlet.. Nev

You are right, the cylinder head will be examined to rule out the presence of a crack....verdict in a few days.
