Then the smaller piece of plywood was bolted to the U-shaped one. By zooming in on the photo one can just make out the nut on the bottom of the nearest bolt. These two nuts prevent the drill rods from spreading apart. A couple of screws are screwed into the top support block to prevent the rods from coming closer together.
