ARIEL LEADER SHOCK ABSORBERS

Post by PaulWoolley »

Good morning
Can anyone help please,
I am trying to find out the dimensions of the rear shocks when fully closed and fully open in an effort to source some alternatives to the originals.
cheers
Paul

There is a copy of the original drawing of the rear damper around, I saved the image but can I find it now…
Does anyone have it to share with Paul?

I seem to remember Brian Hinchcliffe sourced some ‘Classics’ for his bike. They had the eye top mount so not a direct replacement but I’m sure he will fill you in when he sees your post.

Ivor, I hope you don't mind, I have added the drawing to the club's drawing archive. Do you have any more that we may not have on file? This one looks like a drawing from Armstrongs and may not be quite as supplied as I am pretty sure that grease nipples were not fitted.

I'd wondered about the 'grease dimple' on the drawing. Both of the dampers on my
200 Arrow have holes in that position although they are plain and not raised.

There is some info on alternative shocks, using Hagon units. Page 7 on the 2 stroke forum. Might be of help

i was thinking honda xl185 shocks , unsrew top mount from it and adapt some poly bushes to fit with the original cups and maybe run a die down the rod to extend the threads if not long enough .
can allways fit a poly bump stop if too much travel to bottom out .
havent tried one yet though .
