I did it by myself. I first lifted the engine on to a scissor lift I have, which was part on the ramp and part under the frame with a chock of wood on it, then I lifted the engine in to place with one hand on the left front and the other hand on the right rear, using my right knee to stop the engine swinging.

Easy really!

Thanks for that - I'll try to imagine how. Would be very disappointing to get the frame paint all good and then chip it getting the engine manouvered into place.

Slow progress recently, mostly due to a log burner in the house and it being pigging cold in the garage.

Have managed to fit the primary outer, most of the clutch and the exhaust manifolds.

Life has been busy so far this year. I can’t believe it is March already!

Today I received my magdyno back, so fingers crossed I can make a big push this month and get the bike close to running.

Well I have made significant progress since the last post. Wiring harness made, oil lines, ignition leads, cables etc.

Today I have got to the stage where the bike is ready to start pending the tank repair sealant curing, which it should be done by Sunday, at which point I can go for a start and discover the oil leaks, mistiming, carb issues etc which I will inevitably have!

Terrific look to the job and the start will go well I am sure. We all understand the challenges of the break-in period I am sure.

With a little help from Dad, the bike is now ‘finished’, although the snagging list includes:

- need to sort out slow running
- magneto cut out switch doesn’t work
- 8 day clock slow
- still not 100% convinced the tank sealant is fully cured
- mirrors need fitting

And that is all just before the test ride!

Looks pretty though:

I got the multimeter out tonight and checked my magneto cutout switch as I felt it was the most likely culprit. WRONG!

I am always training people not to forget the basics - like the missing carbon brush in the end cap! I’ve taken one out of the spare K2F end cap I have and installed it, so that should sort it!

Today was the Gloucester Branch Cream Tea Run which started from and finished at our house. Rob came down from Rolleston on his Square Four so I had to take the Red Hunter. The last time these two bikes ran together with the same riders was to the 2000 Annual Rally at Micheldean in the Forest of Dean. To that rally, Rob rode the Square, with sidecar, on L-plates. By the time he gets back home, he will have done more miles on that bike this year than the previous owner did on it in the 21 years that he owned it.

We had a break for refreshment at the Talbot at Knightwick where they provide three excellent beers - named This, That and T'other.
