Oil tank blocked pipe

I have a pipe on my singles oil tank that appears to have been blocked deliberately with something that feels like a wooden bung!
As the bike is still being assembled I have no idea what the pipe is for and why it would have been blocked off.
The pipe is the small one seen in the second photo and goes directly into the tank. The 'bung' blocking this pipe can be seen in the filler neck in the first photo.
I should be grateful for any advice.

That's the chain oiler pipe - from the factory it has a felt pad to meter the flow to the chain case.

Simon,
Many thanks that explains a lot.
To test that the pad passes oil I am going to invert the tank and fill the pipe with oil to see if it passes through the pad. Failing that I might try using a syringe to add a bit of back pressure (gentle!).
Is it essential to have a working chain oiler? I use a graphite spray on the chains of my other bikes.

Hi

Yes, that's the wick oiler inlet for the secondary chain, I decided to remove the plug from mine and it was very similar to a wooden bung. I have blocked off the pipeline and am lubricating the chain with ceramic grease, (I have a FERC which should reduce the pick up of debris - we'll see).

Mick,

Thanks for your reply. Judging by the sludge in the tank I should imagine that the pad is well and truly blocked. I can't see new pads listed by Drags.

It's not essential to have a working oiler, but don't leave that pipe open!
