Some of you may have seen my post on Facebook about my 350 rigid being on display and used as a prop by the Guildford Shakespeare Company this weekend gone. It was part of their Shakespeare sonnet and readings walks that they do around the Bard's birthday each year. This was the first time they used Godalming, a fairly quaint and historic little town in Surrey. The bike was set up in Crown Square, and a young actress by the name of Suzanne performed a sonnet, using the bike as her object of the words. It worked very well. My wife and I received tickets for the walk, and we had a very enjoyable walk around the back streets meeting the actors who were all stationed at various points around the town. Unsuspecting onlookers may have been bemused by the chap at the riverside with his binoculars who spent the entire weekend looking in vain for a swallow. Or the lady in one of the beds of the Cotswold Company shop!
Here is the sonnet to go with my bike, number 104 to be exact;

To me, fair friend, you never can be old,
For as you were when first your eye I eyed,
Such seems your beauty still. Three winters cold
Have from the forests shook three summers’ pride,
Three beauteous springs to yellow autumn turned
In process of the seasons have I seen,
Three April perfumes in three hot Junes burned,
Since first I saw you fresh, which yet are green.
Ah, yet doth beauty, like a dial-hand,
Steal from his figure, and no pace perceived;
So your sweet hue, which methinks still doth stand,
Hath motion, and mine eye may be deceived:
For fear of which, hear this, thou age unbred:
Ere you were born was beauty’s summer dead.
