Timing chain tension adjustment ng350 1936
Timing chain tension adjustment ng350 1936
Help please,
The timing chain needs tightening as it has over an inch of play and rattles.
The 36 model does not have a tensioning spring nor a plate mounting that can be moved as the manual shows for the W/NG . The parts lists don't show any tensioners that might be adapted for my bike and the workshop manual is for the W/NG.
I also don't see how removing links would work as to tension the chain to 3/8 play as recomended seems imposible as it would be on the other chains without being able to move the sprockets.
Thanks.

Thank guys
It's confusing when the only diagrames available are not pertinent to my model.

Mike.
The 3 bolts underneath the mag are in slotted holes.
Slacken off the bolts enough that you can just slide the mag rearwards, whilst keeping it 'square' in order to keep the chain running true on the sprocket, and thirdly, at the same time, keeping it pressed against the back of the timing case for the seal to keep, err, sealed.

Thanks for the great advice / help, I'm hoping I might ride the bike more than kneeling at it's side with spanners.

Holding the magneto square and keeping the seal tight and adjusting the chain tension all at the same time is quite fiddly. I find it helps to hold the magneto square with a bolt screwed in the sprocket nut and a flat plate with a hole in it.
