1957 NH Re-Fresh

Post by Julian Murphy »

Postman delivered a box of parts today

From Redditch Powder Coating.

Ariel Dark Maroon.

A good colour match with the 40 year old metalwork paintwork.

Now to re-fit, especially the centre stand.

Another thumbs up for Redditch Shotblast and Powdercoat . Not used them for a couple of years so no comment on current timescale but always been pleased with them

They turned these round in 4 weeks.

Don't know if thats good or bad really, but I was in no particular rush.

Other bikes to maintain and ride.

Getting Redditch to turn around the maroon colour in 4 weeks is bloody good in my opinion. They usually wait for a good batch to be there before changing over the powder guns, so you have timed it very well.

Agreed, changing over the powder guns and cleaning down takes time = money.

I can understand that they would need to get a decent batch of parts in to justify the change over.

My local coater is 'satin black' mainly, and will do gloss black or fire engine red if 'pushed'.

I am now on the last job of the 'mini' overhaul.

That is re-fitting of the magneto.

I want to fit a felt washer over the mag shaft.

In the light of not being able to obtain club singles spares for the moment can anybody either:

Sell me one of these washers,
or
Tell me what the dimensions are and, o/d, i/d, thickness, and I will make 1 or 2.

Thanks

This is the cable grommet for the L dynamo with the pressed metal end cap.

Anybody know where I can obtain one of these please?

Hi

They're readily available from several suppliers - do a search on 200895 dynamo grommet

Found the grommet, and fitted.

Yesterday I went to Terry at Stotfold Engineers in Biggleswade.

He trued up the brake surfaces on both wheels :
SAM_2139.JPG
He previously trued up the rear brake for my BMW R80 ST. The brake was smooth as butter. Even the MOT tester commented.

He has a lathe big enough to set the wheel up even with the tyre fitted. (Amongst other lathes, a press brake, a mill and other general workshop tooling)

For the QD rear wheel, I fitted a bearing into an old sprocket and bolted that onto the hub. He needs to have the wheel spindles fitted to set up and machine true to the axle.

0.008" was removed from the rear, and 0.005 from the front.
