Coil access cover

Post by will_curry »

I'm currently attempting to revive a very late Arrow which hasn't turned a wheel
for over 40 years. It's a frustrating mixture of wonderfully original features
and terrible bodges. I worked on these things in the 60's and so have some experience
of them but what I'm finding more and more is that the memories I have are incomplete.

I'm sure I remember there being a cover over the access hole in the main frame which
gives access to the coils. This cover was made out of what I call 'elephant hide'
and was the same shape as the access hole but slightly larger and retained by a pair
of clips which fitted into the holes at either side of the access hole.

I've looked in the Parts List, the User's Guide and the Workshop Manual and can
find no mention of such a cover. So, were they fitted at all or is my memory at
fault once again?

Hi Will, It certainly does exist and made of fibreboard Part number T2137, 2 clips T2152. Clips are available https://draganfly.co.uk/shop/85193/clip ... tch/#T2152 but not the cover, go find an elephant and ask nicely if you can have some of his hide. See page 34 of the Leader Arrow parts book 1961, it's missing from the 1960 Arrow only book.

Thank you gentlemen for your responses.

Now, should I be pleased my memory was correct or sad I missed the entry in the Parts List?
Anyway, I'm off on safari tomorrow to find a generous elephant.

Hi, The spare pieces are left after cutting out the Leader locker liners, which I sell at AOMCC rallies, auto jumbles etc. the spare bits being used to make both the Leader and Arrow coil covers. The material- mill board is 1.1 m/m thick, slightly less than the original which was 1.2 m/m thick.

Some classic cars have mill board door cards or similar but it was a bit thicker and embossed on one side.

You can have a piece of board enough to make an Arrow cover for free or I sell the covers+ two clips for £ 3-00.

Regards Brian H.
