Shock Absorber
I hope that somebody can help me with identifying the primary drive shock absorber I have bought. The seller told me that it was definitely from an Ariel probably a big single but I have offered it up to my VB crank and it does not fit and is different from that on my NH. Looking at Drags web site all singles since 1930 seem to have the shock absorber spring fixed using two hexagon nuts not plate that needs a c spanner.
the other major difference is that it has 4 lobes rather than the two I expected .
Any help would be gratefully received. Thanks

Does the plate have a thread, Derek?

Yes the plate is threaded but it is threaded with a 3/4 " cycle.

The nine splines are a surprise, too.

I doubt it's Ariel, but an expert will be along to tell you.

Looking further on the web suggests that it may be a BSA M series part

Re: Shock Absorber
Another oddity is that it has a square section spring while Ariels are generally circular

Re: Shock Absorber
I think that's BSA, could well be for a single.
You could maybe use it on an Ariel single with the spring plate and crank nut from a KH (it's what I use)

Re: Shock Absorber
it will probably fit the huntmaster which is basically a BSA A10 , the BSA ones are very similar for the singles and twins, crankshaft splines are slightly different between the singles and twins. some have 2 lobes and some have 4
