If It was leather I could have fixed it

I had the Huntmaster loaded up for yesterdays trip but couldnt get her started, very unusual, the battery was flat too but even with a freshly charged battery still nothing. So I transferred to the Electric bike. I managed my first job at Porton Down but on my way to Poole the belt broke.

I found the gremlin in my Huntmasters electrics. The relay that turns on my ignition must have been infiltrated by salt water. A new one fixed it. Its in a rubber glove now

You'll have to make one of those nice little round leather boxes to keep a spare belt in Steve!

They hid my leather box in the picture.

I've got a spare belt but it's not straight forward changing it, I've got to get the swinging arm out to put it in. If it's anything like my Ariel I'll be in trouble.

hi steven i think i would be looking at trying to do some mods to try and make life a bit better to remove the swinging arm or modify the frame or casing to get the new belt on

I'd consider threading a sparer belt onto the frame and stowing it out of the way - would make roadside repair of a broken belt much simpler

Love your leather work by the way - not so sure about your electrics though

The Club veteran from 1908 has a facility which allows changing the drive belt without the need to remove the rear frame parts. (It doesn't have a swinging arm, but the same problem applies.)

I remeber from my younger days, that Adler in Germany in the late thirties made a front wheel drive car with the drive to the dynamo between the engine and the gearbox. So the gearbox had to come out to change the belt. Sensible people put up to 5 belt into place on that occasion and tied them up with strings (plastic strings were not yet invented) untill they were needed.
