Rear sprocket bearing

Post by will_curry »

Having sorted the back brake out on my late Arrow I've moved on to
the next challenge.

When I stripped the rear wheel the bearing in the sprocket was stuck
fast with petrified grease. I pressed the bearing out and degreased it.
It now turns but the tracks are badly pitted. It was a very noisy bearing.
I ordered a replacement which arrived yesterday. This took as much effort
to press in as the old bearing took to press out. Not so good was the
fact that once pressed in, like the old bearing, it wouldn't turn either. The bearing
was bought as T1534 for an arrow back sprocket and not as a 6204.

Any suggestions Gentlemen?

After some discussion with a local bearing supplier I bought a 6204 bearing with
a C3 fit rather than the usual C2. It fits perfectly so problem solved.
