Mk1 sq4 tank rubbers

A stupid question but I cant find the answer anywhere. My 51 mk1 has two different length tank mounting bolts and corresponding different rubbers to suit. What I cant find out is which go to the front tank mount and rear.
The 4 thinner ones are bolt to frame but the frame to tank are the ones in question.

HI Peter i am in the boat as you i have got to fit my tank on my 54 NH and you have two different length of bolts and two different thickness of rubbers but the 4 spacers are all the same length i see the frame mountings are different thickness but i don't no why you have different length bolts wen the spacers are all the same length and i got all the new fixings from Drags and that is what they list

The lower rubber is identical front & rear (3/8" I think), the front upper rubber is taller than the rear. Details are on the Drags website.

Thanks for that. I looked everwhere with no joy. Draganfly supplied all the correct bits but no info that I could find on what goes where. I wonder what the reason was, was it as simple as the petrol would pool at the end where the tap is or is it something with fitting the saddle seat?

One should never over think things. The simple answer is the frame mounting lugs are different thicknesses. Therefore the rubbers are different thicknesses to compensate. Hence the thicker one at the front.

Hi Peter,

According to the chart in Drags catalogue 'List 15', the mountings should be:

• 2 off 5/8" thick PN 5060-27 (these are the front ones)
• 4 off 3/8" thick PN 5060-31 (these are the lower ones)
• 2 off 17/32" thick PN 5061-37 ( these are the top rear ones)

A word of warning - make sure you use the correct bolts. These have very short threads, so that you cannot screw them in too far. My W/Ng has four neat cracks in the bottom of the tank where someone has used regular bolts and put them in too far...

Don't forget to use the sleeves. Without them you won't be able to properly
tighten the fixing bolts which will then fret in the threads in the tank and cause
all sorts of problems. For some reason they're not listed in the parts book but
they were used.

They fit over the fixing bolt to limit the amount the bolt can be screwed into the
tank mounting.

Good point about the sleeves. Don't happen to know the lengths do you so I can knock some up?

I haven't got one to hand to measure but the length should be enough
to just cover the first thread on the bolt. This length should also be shorter
than the combined length of rubbers and bracket so there is some compression
of the rubbers and finally the OD should be such that is completely free in the
mounting brackets.

Interesting to hear of the sleeves. I have never found any and certainly have never used any. If you tighten the bolt until you get some compression of the rubbers (using the bolts with short threads, of course) then fit the locking wires you shouldn't have a problem.
