Newbie question

Can the forum help on checking originality on a ariel motorcycle if so what details would be required ie frame number , engine number or reg number? Thanks Dave.

Engine & frame number will tell us what it is. Welcome to the forum - feel free to ask any questions, however daft you might think they are. We all started somewhere!

Thank you for that just really wanted to know if the engine and frame numbers where both the same to check if its original from factory or replacement engine fitted. Cheers Dave

Depends what bike it is Dave. I believe that the two strokes have identical frame and engine numbers, the four stroke bikes do not.

Thanks again its a 4 stroke hence the different numbers so probably original. Will get a dating certificate if I purchase the bike. Thanks.

Do you know what the numbers are? Might be good to check before you buy. Post the numbers here, we'll have an answer in a few minutes.

Frame Pr.1683 Engine. Md266 hope this helps

PR is a 1956 swinging arm frame, MD is a 1956 KH 500 twin engine. The only way of telling if they left the factory together is to check the archives.
