Square Four Mk11 Std piston rings

Post by keith wainwright »

Hello all
I have been waiting nearly 5 months for Std ring set for Ariel Square Four Mk11 from Dragons and got the dreaded on back order. After making several enquiries I found a company in Somerset. Very interesting people to talk to.

John Cox
They are making a set for me and will be with me very shortly.
They are also making a set for a Douglas MkV 350cc. I found that it was almost impossible to locate even from the owners club.
Hope the above helps in keeping these marvellous classics on the road.
Kindest regards to you all Keith

Although the original post is three years old it's still relevant as Draganfly remains out of stock for std rings for mk2 square fours. However, i found a different work around - mini cooper 1000 rings at +020 are an acceptable alternative - with thanks to club square four guru Bruce for this info.

Kieth, looking at the page for Ariel pistons on the Drags website, it looks like there are two types of Mark 1 pistons - one type can use the mark 2 rings, the other type needs the grooves opened by 0.017" to take the mark 2 rings.

Hi Keith, i was fitting my rings over the weekend and found that there is a height difference in the oil control ring of about 0.15 mm (didnt measure exactly). The mini oil control ring is thinner than the mk2 one. The compression rings were ok (needed the gap opening up a little). Either i got the wrong mini rings, or something. Anyway, i just thought i'd let you know.

I've used Cox and Turner for one compression ring for a VB. Cost £12 delivered in three days
