W/NG Clutch Plates

Guys,

I read somewhere that W/NGs originally had fabric clutch plates. Anyone seen one? I guess it would be hard to tell, all these years on.

I haven't seen evidence one way or the other. You need less spring tension with cork by a long way. I'd use it always except when racing. Nev

according to the various single cylinder parts lists:
  • specifically list fabric inserts only, in the WNG parts lists -1940-44 at least
  • Post war (1947) both are listed
  • By 1951 cork only
Never seen a fabric one. :(

Probably standard in the VCH 49 on but I run cork in mine. It's a far better material for general use. There might be 1 or 2 old fabric plates in amongst my junk. Some after market replacements are Kevlar or such bonded on and are noticeably more weighty. Nev
