Ariel in Motor Cycling 1930/31
With at least another three weeks of lockdown I thought I'd take a day off from the Ariels in the garage and, with far too much time on my hands I went through volume 48 of Motor Cycling (November 1930 to May 1931) and scanned anything to do with Ariels. Some were road tests, some opinion pieces, a lot were tips from owners on how to bodge repairs, some of which were half way suicidal. I particularly liked the recommendation to use Mechano on a Matchless brake shoe so all the lining could be worn away or how to link the brakes in an Ariel Colt. There were some were interesting bits on the Ariel factory both at home and abroad and also some great drawings of Ariel components and engines. Here's a couple of the articles....

that is a good read takes me back wen i was bodging my bikes with bits of metal and wire wen i did not know any better

Thanks Simon, one of my favourites has got to be the bodge of fitting the horn button to the timing cover so you can use it with your foot. I'll try and dig it out and post it in the next day or two .....

And some more from Motor Cycling including an ingenious article about using Mechano to place a horn button on the timing chest of your Colt. So there you are barrelling along and a car pulls out in front of you. In addition to braking, changing down and panicking you now have to wave your right foot around trying to hit a horn button on the side of the engine!

A couple of articles from 1932 including a short one announcing the new 1932 Red Hunter 500 described as a 'Hyper-sports' which I thought was a modern term used to describe the 200mph rockets of today but apparently I was wrong
