Front wheel bearing adjuster nut spanners

Post by alan.moore »

Having read through all the previous posts on this subject it is clear that, although the WNG parts books and maintenance manual show the double ended G1/55 & G1/55A sheet metal 'wheel bearing adjustment' spanners their 1 inch (1.010") jaw size (and their thickness) are too big to fit the WNG front wheel bearing adjusting nuts which are 7/16 whitworth / 0.817". 'Normal' spanners are just too thick to allow the bearing adjusting nut to be held whilst the locknut is tightened.

As with the rear wheel taper roller bearings there should be a bit of play, so holding the inner bearing adjuster nut whilst tightening the outer locknut is quite important for bearing life. (These bearings are quite expensive !)

I've made a couple of spanners from sheet steel which do the job but was wondering if anyone has come across an actual Ariel spanner produced for this purpose.

Cheers

I've stumbled across this one too. There may be a post on it from a few years ago. If I recall correctly, I do have an Ariel spanner that fits but it's not one from the toolkit in the parts list...

I'll have a search tomorrow.
cheers
