Daily Fixing and Riding Diary on an Ariel 2020

Post by Steven.Carter »

Hope everyone has a great new year.

Here we go again, another year and Decade.
My mileage on "WE" has reached 110347 from 95993, thats 14,354miles in 2019. She did realy well, only my bad wiring let it down.

So its WEfurbishment time, if you pardon the pun. I've decided to completely rebuild her. I've a spare engine ready, my gearbox must surely need some TLC, I'll fit all new cables and and chains. She'll be good for another 100,000 miles.

This will be her 3rd rebuild as far as I can make out. Funny, as I was looking for some bits on ebay yesterday I saw this. Must have been just after her first rebuild.

One other job I must do is fix the center stand, its going over to far

With more and more stuff that needs fixing it would be daft not to replace the engine with my rebuilt spare. It will be interesting to see the sludge traps, to see how full they might be after all those miles.
Anyway the engine is out :D

Cheers,,, got the stupid battery holder separated from the inner primary cover courtesy of Alan.
The screw slots had suffered at the hands of my screwdriver so it needed re slotting then some heat did for them.

Early last year I changed out the rubber swinging arm bushes for bronze bushes with a grease nipple. Thats about 5thousand miles ago so nows a good chance to see how they are doing. So far it looks good. I can't feel any play with a good tug in both directions. I'll take out the swinging arm itself out tomorrow for a good look

Nice to see a working bike, shows what can be done with a little maintainance and not having an obsession with autosol!

You've got quite a lot to do Steve, if you're going to make it to the Crazy Horse?
