HELP PLEASE Isolastic Bushes

I have a Swallow Jet 80 sidecar for my sq4 the chair to sidecar chassis suspension has failed. What has failed are the two Isolastic bushes they comprise of an inner sleeve 40mm o/d 120 mm long inside a 75mm o/d tube sandwiched between its rubber bonded to both. the rubber between the two tubes works by a resistance to the twisting motion I have taken the whole kit to a rubber moulding company in Haslingdon who tried to remake the Bushes two of them . THEY ARE IN EFFECT A LARGER VERSION OF THE ISOLASTIC SWINGING ARM BUSHES on an Ariel, the rubber moulding company had a go but they failed after a week they gave way. Does anyone know an address for the manufacturer of swinging arm isolastic bushes for Ariels Or Jim Hunters contact information Jim is the chap who makes footrest rubbers and the like for this club and others. Or does any club member have experiance of these bushes

you can do what i did years ago is fit a unit that they use on small trailers if you have wire will change the stub axle they last years you can get them from a caravan or trailer shop or on ebay

Hi Allan I have also got a Jet 80 and in the same boat I need a bush for the wheel attachment ,I gave up searching ,you have renewed my enthusiasm .This company in Austria have some that look suitable
Stoffl Rudolf GmbH have 40x75x88/80 part no:-ST4075-8088 a bit short but you could buy 3 and cut one in half and use one and a half in each ,the alternative is getting one -offs made by a specialist like Polymax or GMT of Leeds good luck with them

I don't know if this helps, but have you tried a Google search for 'metalastik' which is, I believe, the type of bush you require?

Allan Hi Thanks for the heads up
I will give it a try. I have been mulling it over in bed this morning and every morning for the last week I have got parts made for steel springs but the springs are too hard they would shake our dentures out when sat in the sidecar . problem with Modifications is that you need to do the research as well

The name of the bushes you are looking for is Silentblock bushes and are still made in the UK. As said above just put this in Google and take your pick. From an old fart using original terminology. Bob

I had a Swallow Jet80 sidecar at one stage so I know the bushes you mean. As others have said, they are either Metalastic or Silentbloc and a Google search gives you leads for either.
