1946 Ariel NG Project

Post by Paul Slootheer »

1946 Ariel NG? Well not quite at this moment to be honest, but I'am in process to raise this frame to it's former glory as a 1946 Ariel NG. I learned (thanks Paul Jameson!) this NG was shipped in a batch of xxx(?) Ariel motorcycles on the 29th december 1945 to Holland as a part of ''Netherlands Relief'' (?) for the Dutch government. Mean while I also did find engine cases with the same ''Netherlands Relief'' destination just a couple of engine numbers away from the original engine cases, so that's very nice.

To be continued :D

At least you got the engine plates,so thats a start. And you have a motor........Ive managed to assemble a VG from a frame and motor, but using some pretty naff bits ,including a fibreglass replica back guard, and a lot of twin stuff.......But then ,i am the person who disassembled it to build another bike many years ago.........case of ...wheres that tin of bolts and studs, put em right here 40 years ago.

HI if you are going to ride it and not just look it and want a better ride i would use telescopic forks it was the best thing i done to my 1939 350 i know a lot of people will say that it is not right but it is me that's riding it and i think its a lot safer if you are riding it on modern roads and good luck with your build

A good set of girder forks is worth quite a lot these days and you don't need a set that's not good. The tele's go straight in and why not use the alloy guards set up with "compy" or VCH style stays as was often done (even by the factory to order) in those days? Original hinged guards and stays all round are hard to find. Put a good sidestand on as well and you can use a range of tanks preferably with out the panel. This produces a pretty and light weight bike very nice to ride and look at. Nev
