1954 Petrol tank?

Post by Paul Slootheer »

Today I aquired this fluted petrol tank. Who knows on which models it was in use? The tank bolts underneath does fit to a rgid frame, and not to a PRF frame. As far as I can see nothing has been altered/modified etc. Due to the fact it’s fited with the plastic badges in stead of ‘winged motif/enamel’ ones, I assume it’s 1954 onwards. Could this be a late rigid VB petrol tank?

Interesting!
The 1954 sales literature shows an Anstey frame VB with a fluted tank but still with the earlier style enamel 'strip' badge. Maybe it's a 1955 tank - I wonder what the parts books show...!!

The partbook shows that the rigid frame was still available for the VB in 1955, but the parts list is less clear about the petrol tank. Is it save to assume this petrol tank is a example of the final year of the rigid VB? Any other thoughts?

I think the above is correct, a number of years ago I brought an identical tank, but when I tried to fit it to my 1955 FH, the tank mounts were incorrect. There was an option for diehard VB owners (especially fitted with sidecars) in 1955 to have a rigid/plunger frame instead of the newer PRF frame.
I think I eventually sold it to someone in South Africa.

Maybe to expensive to change the artwork. :D
I might change my plans due to this petrol tank, and start to collect parts for building a VB!
