A 1500 Wolseley (I think) peps the Minor up considerably and much can be done with the
steering, suspension and brakes too.

In the late '60s there was a very quick split-screen Minor driving around Sheffield.

The other Sheffield connection was that the then Sheffield and Rotherham Constabulary
used Minors as patrol cars, supposedly as they were the only car then available tall
enough to allow officers to enter and exit without removing their headgear.

As a young boy in scouts I remember one of the other scouts Peter Bowen had an older brother with a Moris Minor. It was fitted with a GM Holden 186 cubic inch 6 cylinder S type engine. The firewall was cut away and the rear of the engine and the clutch dome protruded into the cabin. From memory it had the standard 3 speed GMH gearbox converted to stick shift. As young boys there was always a que of scouts happy to get a lift in the Morris. It was quicker than anything else on the road, or so we thought. Imagine trying to get something like that through rego inspection now.

back in the 80s when i did a lot of drag racing one of our gang [from melksham] phil drewitt had a morris minor pickup named "low blow" which had a blown rover v8 in it and he raced it in the same rover v8 class as nick mann .
a couple of seasons later though he revamped the minor and put a raced up small block chevy 350cu in in it with nitrous and called it "low blow 2 ] , that was a different kettle of fish and ran low 10sec 1/4s all day .
later on he let low blow go and got a late ford mustang [like a mk3 escort] with a 460 ford v8 in it and clutch/auto box and ran in 9.90 supergas class .
phil is still racing now in the outlaw anglia class with a decent v8 ford pop which is running down in the 9s .

with the original A series engines though i allways remember it was OSELLI performance who were the go to place for tuning bits and i think they are still going strong now after all this time .

amazing little engines and i think there is an A35 that gets built for goodwoods festival of speed race and they win it .

why dont we have cars with character these days eh .
