Eenhoorn Treffen -Unicorn Meet- , coming up on the 7th of April.
More or less the first trip in the new season goes to this small town of Austerlitz.
This year arranged by the Dutch Ariel Club under auspices of the Unicorn Federation.
Anke Nobel made this fine emblem after a few ideas from me
Wikipedia:
The Pyramid of Austerlitz is a monument consisting of a grass-covered pyramid-shaped sand mound measuring 40 by 40 meters with a stone obelisk.
The total height, including obelisk, is 33 meters. Visitors can reach the platform at the obelisk along a staircase of 81 steps.
The pyramid was built in 1804 by Napoleonic soldiers on one of the highest points of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug.
The French general Auguste de Marmont had established an army camp (Camp d'Utrecht) at this central location in the Netherlands in 1804, where in a few months he managed to forge several battalions into a large, well-trained army that would defeat the British enemy in the event of a repeat of the 1799 invasion. - how fitting to come and pay a visit with British bikes !- with the military strength of the new army, and against boredom among his soldiers, De Marmont had them build this monument in the autumn of 1804, inspired by the pyramids of Giza
