Front mudguards

Post by Simon.Gardiner »

Sooooo - are the edges supposed to be wired on all years, or did only the early ones have just one side that was wired?
(I guess this is for upper and lower sections, although I haven't fully dissected my upper section yet....)

Simon,

I'm not sure what you mean by 'wired' but for what it's worth the sides
of both parts of my front mudguard which is from a '65 Arrow are rolled
and the outer edges are flattened leaving the ends at the forks plain.

For what it's worth, I believe that all my genuine Ariel mudguards have rolled edges, but only the rear section of the W/NG is wired.
cheers

Will - as I understand it, rolling and closing the bead (edge) around a wire is a better then folding the edge over or rolling it into an open trough. I've decided it's time to revive a spare Arrow front mudguard from some early-type brake anchor forks. On one side the edge appears to be folded and closed around a wire, the other side is just rolled open.

.
Ends of wire showing on the other side:

Simes - I think my swing-arm rear mudguard (original Ariel) has wired beads (the front one is fibreglass so that's no use as a comparison).

(PS - rusty old parts now dunked in a citric acid bath, when they come out all that rust will be 100% gone... 8-) )
