1932 Square Four at auction

Post by Paul_Linden »

Nothing to do with me, but a 600cc 1932 square four is up for auction in Yorkshire:

Lots of original bits there, but as usual missing some tinware and the mag-dyno.
Square 4 mk1, Square 4 mk2, BSA C12.

nice piece, there's still a lot of work to do, but it's a good project

This was offered by the auctioneer last year in one of their previous sales IIRC but didn't reach its reserve.

Well remembered Andrew. I trawled through their previous auction results and it was up on 25th March this year with an estimate of £6k, from which i infer the reserve is near to.

Looks like it didnt sell this time either - 5-6k estimate. Perhaps the restoration costs are becoming less attractive for bikes that need a lot of work or are likely to be problematic. Even moreso as prices are falling for all but machines perceived as 'something special' ;)

When I last looked before the auction closed it was listed as 'no reserve'....

We have quite a bit of history on this one, matching numbers. Looks like it has been in this state for at least 50 years!

It’s a shame, probably too costly to restore now.
