Hi, I want to install front register plates in my 1949 Ariel twin motorcycle. What would be the best way to do it? White adhesive characters or attaching two die pressed plates? Does anyone know how this was done back in the days?
If die pressed is the best choice, should they be aluminum or white painted characters?
Also, the plate in my motorcycle is similar to the one in the picture. The company that makes the plates suggested to attach rectangular plates. Has anybody done this?
Thanks!

Hi Nev, no, I am considering getting some aluminum pressed plates from Tippers plates.

Find a signwriter.
Painted by hand, with a flourish and with care.
Had mine done like this 40 years ago. Still look good.
Sticky plastic letters. No thanks.
The pressed aluminium plate will probably not be the same size or shape as your plate.

I think that most, if not all, 1949 bikes would have had the numbers painted on. Your local signwriter will do this for you, either with plain letters/numbers or possibly with some "character" to them. But a later owner of the bike might have fitted pressed plates to it so why not?

Thanks to all for your suggestions. I think I will get a signwriter to paint the plate!
