Identification

Post by Ottmar.Dietrich »

Dear Members of the AOMCC,

I got an Ariel single port engin R.H. 350 . Engin number is: BH 9 34
Does that mean that this engin was built in september 1934 ? I could not find a BH series.!?
To which motorcycle belonged the engin. R.H. -- Red Hunter?
As parts are missing -- where could I find a drawing and a list of spare parts?

I appreciate your help

BH engine numbers are usually 350 WNG engines from ww2 ?
There was no BH series; it's just the engine numbers are stamped this way

You can match the look of the bike with the pictures here:

Ideally you need the frame number AND the engine number

Dear Mr. Nash, thank you for the information. Unfortunately there is no frame and bike, only this engin.

All I can tell you is that the 350 WNG engine started with engine number BH.
It's pretty much the standard ariel 350 engine; late thirties through to mid-50's when it got an alloy head.

Looks a bit like this ..

The timing cover might vary; they mix and match

Is that yours John? i've never seen the engine Khaki all over, but why not? The military gearlever is longer for the big army boots and doesn't take a rubber Nev.

I should have done a Paul Linden, but as I've been collecting bits and painting things for a year then I've missed the boat somewhat ...

Love your shed! - I'd kill for a decent floor like that. I've got an old lump of carpet with plastic under it to catch the oil. It squelches when I walk on it...
Love the helmet, but you don't think the dual seat by the front wheel is a bit much for the bike?
Looks good John.

So now I found out how to add Photos.
Maybe its easier now to tell me something about this engine.
I saw no green colour at all. So maybe it wasn't an army motorcycle.

Your's sincerely: Ottmar Dietrich
